The borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles is located in Montreal. Rivière-des-Prairies and Pointe-aux-Trembles are the two districts that make up this territory. It is the second biggest territory in the City of Montreal, with a surface area of 42.3 km2.
The name of the borough is a combination of the two communities that were annexed to Montreal, Rivière-des-Prairies joined in 1963 and Pointe-aux-Trembles in 1982. It is home to 102,457 people.
Rivière-des-Prairies is mostly made up of houses, with a few forested regions and fields thrown in the mix. Pointe-aux-Trembles is busier and more urban, although it still has a suburban feel about it. The third area, La Pointe-aux-Prairies, is a typical suburb with townhouses, apartments, and single-family homes, making it a popular choice for young families who want to stay on Montréal’s island. The Rivière-des-Prairies River runs through Montreal’s northern border with Laval.
