Anjou

Anjou became a borough of Montreal in 2002, along with several other towns on the Montreal Island, as a result of municipal mergers imposed by the Quebec government. Ville d’Anjou was the name of the city before the 2002 merger.

Anjou is bounded on the east and north by the Rivière-des-Prairies, on the south by Mercier, and on the west by Saint-Léonard. In 1956, the city was formed by separating from St. Leonard of Port Maurice. This neighborhood is notable for its large industrial area, which is vital to Montreal’s economic system.

It has a population of about 42,796 people and covers an area of 13.7 km2.
