The borough of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève is part of the city of Montreal. It is made up of the former municipalities of L’Île-Bizard and Sainte-Geneviève, both of which were merged into Montreal in 2002.

The new Jacques-Bizard bridge will replace the old one, which is nearing the end of its life cycle. The new bridge, which will be built just a few meters from the present bridge, will allow 30,000 cars to cross each day and will facilitate the circulation of bikes and pedestrians.

The redesigned structure will accommodate lengthy transportation requirements while also encouraging active travel. Water and electricity will continue to be provided to the people of Île Bizard thanks to the infrastructure that has been put in place.

The new structure was designed with a lifecycle of about 100 years in mind, which is 40 years longer than the previous bridge. The use of advanced and high materials will increase its resistance to de-icing salts and the freeze-thaw cycle, both of which contribute to concrete and steel degradation.
