Ahuntsic-Cartierville

The borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville is the fifth most populated in Montreal, with a population of approximately 137,000 people. With its 15 kilometers of shoreline, numerous parks, heritage sectors, and century-old institutions near the Rivière des Prairies, it provides a one-of-a-kind environment in Montreal.

The borough was formed as a result of Montreal’s municipal reform in 2002. Ahuntsic, a former village annexed to Montreal in 1910, and Cartierville, a town annexed to Montreal in 1916, are the two main neighborhoods.

On the banks of the Rivière des Prairies, Ahuntsic-Cartierville is located in Montreal’s north end. Its origins may be traced back to the Sault-au-Récollet hamlet, which was founded in 1696.
