Boucherville
Boucherville is a city in Quebec, Canada, located in the Montérégie region. On the south bank of the Saint Lawrence River, it is a suburb of Montreal.
It is among the province’s oldest municipalities. Pierre Boucher began farming in the region in 1668 and obtained his seigneury, which included Îles-Percées and the surrounding islands, four years later.
This little town on Montreal’s South Shore has the ideal combination of natural beauty and cultural importance. Boucherville began as a modest seigneurial parish anchored in French culture and a citizen-first mentality when it was founded in 1667 by Pierre Boucherin, the former governor of Trois-Rivières.
Now, the old parish is a vibrant community with a strong sense of tradition and a high quality of life. In the year 2015, MoneySense assessed 209 towns and cities throughout Canada and named Boucherville Canada’s greatest place to live, calling it the country’s “best kept secret.”
The city is steeped in three centuries of history, none more so than the historic site of Vieux-Boucherville.
