Longueuil

Longueuil is located on the St. Lawrence River’s southern bank, just across from Montreal. The region is popular with young professionals who work downtown because it is one of Montreal’s major suburbs.

Although the majority of residents are French-speaking Canadians, Longueuil has a sizable immigrant population, which includes people from Latin America, the Middle East, and East Asia, resulting in a dynamic, multicultural city.

The population in Longueil has been recently reported to be about 246,899.

Le Vieux-Longueuil, Saint-Hubert, and Greenfield Park are the three boroughs that make up the city. Residents of the neighborhood may take use of the Reseau de transport de Longueuil’s bus and metro services, as well as a variety of shared taxi services.

Longueil also offers short ferry rides to delightful Old Montreal, where locals enjoy spending weekend evenings amidst old cobblestoned streets lined with historic 17th- to 19th-century buildings and grand French restaurants, all of which are encompassed by the ambience of the Old Port riverfront.

Because most residences in Longueuil are postwar detached homes, the neighborhood is also a popular choice for new families, particularly those with small children, who benefit from the variety of French and English education available. Because rental costs in Longueil are significantly lower than in Montreal, most locals commute to work in Montreal every day for about twenty minutes. Longueil also has the advantage of combining the conveniences of a city lifestyle with the peace and quiet of suburbia.
