Southern Quebec, Canada’s Mascouche is an off-island suburb of Montreal. With a population of 51,183, it ranks 20th among Quebec’s municipalities and is located along the Mascouche River in the Les Moulins Regional County Municipality.

On the banks of the Rivière de Maskouche, Mascouche is a rich and fertile agricultural region north of Montréal, 7 km northeast of the city of Terrebonne. The name has an Algonquin origin; the word maskwa, which means “bear,” and its derivation, maskoch, both indicate “a small or baby bear.”
