Granby

East of Montreal, in southwest Quebec, is the city of Granby. The La Haute-Yamaska Regional County Municipality is headquartered in Granby. After Sherbrooke, it is the second most populated city in Estrie. The city was given the name of John Manners, Marquess of Granby.

Formerly a area covered in woods and grassland, Granby is a flat region that is located about midway between Montreal and Sherbrooke along Autoroute 10.

Granby has evolved into an urbanized center surrounded by farms and suburban communities. The North Yamaska river passes the lake Boivin, which was created by building a number of dams and then transformed into a swamp that is renowned for its biodiversity. The town has two entry points from the motorway at exits 68 and 74, which connect it to adjacent villages by a network of roads.

The city of Granby is well-known for its zoo, wonderful matrix of bike paths, Artria open-air museum, and special occasions like the Festival International de la chanson de Granby, the biggest French-language singing competition in all of Canada. Numerous specialty stores, restaurants, cafes, and bistros may be found in the downtown area.
