Gatineau

Gatineau is a Canadian city in the Outaouais area of the province of Quebec. The river that gives the city its name was given that name in honor of Nicolas Gatineau, a fur trader who is said to have died in its waters in 1683.

Gatineau was formerly a part of Templeton West but was independently incorporated in 1933 as a village. It then became a town in 1946 and a city in 1975. In order to significantly increase both its land and population, Gatineau merged with the neighboring cities of Aylmer, Hull, Masson-Angers, and Buckingham in the year 2002.

The city is a part of Canada’s National Capital Region and is set on the northern bank of the Ottawa River, directly across from Ottawa, Ontario. With a population of 293,695, Gatineau is the fourth-largest city in the province of Quebec.

Hull, which is recognized as Downtown Gatineau, has recently seen some significant modifications. This region used to have the highest crime rate in the province, but it has now been renovated into a commercial and retail hub. It ranks highly on the list of places to see in any Gatineau guide because it is home to the Université du Québec en Outaouais, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Casino du Lac-Leamy. Although pricey, it is also one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city to live in.
